Job Description:
This position is responsible for working below the surface of water, using scuba gear to inspect, repair, remove, or install equipment and structures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

    • Carry out non-destructive testing such as tests for cracks on the legs of oil rigs at sea
    • Check and maintain diving equipments such as helmets, masks, air tanks, harnesses and gauges
    • Communicate with workers on the surface while under water, using signal lines or telephones
    • Cut an weld steel, using underwater welding equipment, jigs, and supports
    • Inspect and test docks, ships, bouyage systems, plant intakes and outflows, and underwater pipelines, cables and sewers, using closed circuit television, still photography and testing equipment
    • Install pilings or footing for piers and bridges
    • Install, inspect, clean, and repair piping and valves
    • Obtain information about diving tasks and environmental conditions
    • Operate underwater video, sonar, recording and related equipment to investigate underwater structures or marine life

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT:

    • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance
    • Ability to speak to others to convey information effectively
    • Controlling operations of equipment and/or systems
    • Possess good listening skills. Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions and not interrupting at inappropriate times
    • Ability to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job

QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Dive School Certificate
    • Knowledge of emergency and safety procedures
    • Knowledge of proper operation and use of all equipment related to air diving, including decompression chamber
    • Knowledge of air/gas/saturation diving procedures and techniques including JHEA's

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION: Balance is crucial - gangways, decks, stairs, rolling seas, etc. Required to lift daily. Maximum 50 pounds, Minimum 10 - 15 pounds. Lifting floor to knuckle daily, floor to waist frequently, floor to shoulder occasionally. Required to climb steps daily -- 3 flights maximum and 15 steps per flight, 7 ½" rise on each step. Climbing of ladders required weekly, vertical ladder, 10 rungs. Carrying required daily - jet hose, divers umbilical, divers helmet, moving of equipment, etc. Pulling required daily of ropes, and hoses must be able to throw rope distances between vessels and docks/platforms - sometimes as far as 10 - 20 feet. Must be able to rope hang for a minimum of 15 - 20 seconds for vessel transfer. A lot of stooping and bending is required in daily activities.  Must have vald TWIC card and be authorized to work in the US.
