Job Description:
Essential Job Duties:

1.         Be visible in the plant and available to Niagara Plant personnel and contractors to address safety and health issues on a daily basis.
2.         Support and maintain overall Safety and Health programs while incorporating accountability and responsibility for Safety and Health performance into all levels of Niagara         Plant Operations including but not limited to: Safety & Health Training programs, Training Mine, accidents investigations and maintenance of the accident reporting database.
3.         Provide adequate, correct, and appropriate safety and behavioral leadership, counsel, organization, and direction for comprehensive leadership of safety and health through a team concept.
4.         Ensure appropriate reporting and follow-up of elements to meet facility, corporate, federal and state requirements necessary for compliance, continuous improvement, and to minimize injury and illness to personnel, and damage to property and equipment.
5.         Support the development, implementation, and measuring of Safety, Contractor safety, Fire Protection, and Emergency Response and Services, procedures, practices, projects, and record keeping complying with all applicable codes, standards, and accepted practices.  Maintain regulatory compliance and continued quality in OxyChem safety process systems.
6.         Audit areas of performance in Safety, Contractor Safety, Training, Fire Protection, Emergency Response and Services, record keeping, procedures, inspections, safety meetings, incident reporting and investigations, etc. and determine program efficiency status.  Work with plant leadership, personnel, and contract groups to correct and improve performance and practices as applicable.
7.         Direct and motivate employee & contractor participation, behavior, and leadership development in programs, processes, methods, systems, and practices for maintaining a safe work environment and customer satisfaction.
8.         Support and facilitate employee & contractor  involvement in the safety and health system.  Support leadership and personnel, respond, and advice on safety and health related issues, define requirements, interpret regulations and procedures, and assist to define acceptable solutions.
9.         Assist in all safety and health audits from OxyChem Corporate and regulatory personnel, and represent OxyChem at applicable community, and safety and health organizations and functions.
10.        Assist in special program efforts such as the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program, Responsible CAER, and other distinctive regulatory or company programs and processes.
11.        Support cost reduction, synergy, and low cost provider initiatives, and approve expenditures for material and services required to maintain a safe operation of the facility within approved expenditure level and expectations.
12.        Lead the organization to a zero injury and zero environmental impact by example displaying model personal, team, and job competencies with a positive results oriented attitude.
13.        Ensure that Process Safety and Risk Management principles are incorporated into the foundation of department operations. Ensure annual departmental goals and objectives include meaningful Process Safety activities for all levels of the organization.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Safety or related curriculum
Two to Four years safety/environmental experience in a manufacturing environment
Physical requirements - Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including respiratory protective equipment, climb ladders, stairs and approved to enter all process areas.   Must be able to exit facility in expedient manner during an emergency situation.
  
Number of years experience required:  2 - 4 years
