Responsibilities :
 

This position is responsible for the management of onshore Canada completion/well intervention (CWI) operations. This includes the health/safety/environmental (HSE), operational, contractor management and best practice sharing considerations to execute new well completions, well interventions (rig workovers, coiled tubing, slickline, etc.), well abandonments, etc. Responsible for reviewing/executing engineering plans, mentoring less experienced personnel, analyzing/managing project risk, working closely with engineering in the execution of operations, tracking/managing trouble time/costs and driving performance to lower costs and increase production.

Principal accountabilities include:

  • Project Execution - Responsible for planning, logistics, supervising and documenting the execution of well work activities.
  • Will work closely with the Completion/Well Intervention Engineers to make well work decisions/recommendations including selection and optimization of completion type; well intervention units; techniques/materials; plugback methods; fracture treatments; acid stimulations; perforating methods; cleanout methods and management of project risks.
  • Provides input on prognoses including details around HSE, well control, fluids, equipment/materials, contractors, etc.
  • HSE - Responsible for ensuring HSE is integrated in the procedure and execution of CWI operations.
  • Closely tracks well costs including differentiating trouble costs from expected costs.
  • Responsible for managing the well work schedule, contractor resources and serving as the interface between engineering/operations.
  • Execute well work to meet the business plan including cycle time, cost and production targets.
  • Improving performance thru well delivery processes and competitive benchmarking. Champion these processes for your projects and drive operational excellence.
  • Work closely with supply chain organization.
  • Support the implementation of new technologies.
  • Responsible for interfacing with contractors regarding scheduling, equipment, performance, HSE plans, etc.

Requirements :
 

Prefer candidate with experience supervising hydraulic fracture treatments, coiled tubing, wireline, well abandonment and heavy oil completion and well intervention operations. Experience in pad operations and simultaneous operations (SIMOPs) is a plus. Due to the competitive nature of onshore tight gas and heavy oil plays, wells have to be drilled and completed as quickly and efficiently as possible while maintaining high performance in HSE. The success of the overall onshore tight gas and heavy oil ventures continues to rely predominantly on the ability of the Wells group to deliver low cost wells.

Candidate should have a strong knowledge and commitment to HSE through training, integrating HSE into work plans/activities, managing contractor performance through established processes, and supporting sustainable development activities. Employee will be assigned a mentor depending on skill level/expertise with expectation that employee also mentors less experienced personnel. There may be requirements for some travel offshore or overseas. The successful candidate is expected to actively interact with the Wells superintendents, engineers, HSE staff and contractors. Beyond the immediate Wells team, must also form relationships and alliances with the Venture team, regulatory staff, supply chain staff and HR.

Experience and qualifications:

  • Must have legal requirement to work in Canada on a full time basis for anyone other than their current employer.
  • Minimum 5 years relevant industry experience including drilling operations.
  • Willingness to work 28 day rotation of 17 days on duty and 11 days off.
  • High school education/math skills required. College education desired.
  • Will be required to take Shell's CWI Round 1 and Round 2 training or equivalent.
  • Sound understanding of the process to deliver well operations including implementation of new technologies.
  • Proven experience in the field for planning and executing daily operations.
  • Sound understanding of HSE management techniques and the commitment to deliver HSE performance.
  • Experience dealing with competing priorities: decisions are made without undue delay, demonstrated flexibility regarding prioritization and re-deployment of resources/staff.
  • Excellent people skills and experience working in a multi-discipline team environment.
