Featured Employer: Odebrecht Óleo & Gas Ltda
|
The search for chartering and operation units by oil companies motivated Odebrecht to resume its investments in drilling for oil and to branch out its operations in the oil and gas sector, which up to that moment was focused solely on maintenance and modification of Petrobras’ platforms at the company’s Macaé Base in northern Rio de Janeiro state. As the market heated up due to soaring oil prices and the growing demand by oil companies to explore new areas, Odebrecht span off its oil and gas operations from the engineering and construction business. Thus, in 2006 Odebrecht started to pore its oil and gas investments in only one company: Odebrecht Óleo e Gás Ltda (OOG). Odebrecht Óleo e Gás Ltda has the mission to render solutions for the oil industry from engineering design to Platform Operation focusing on Providing Services and investing in selected opportunities in Exploration and Production working with social and environmental responsibility, always committed to our members’ and partners’ safety and health in addition to quality and environmental protection. |

Odebrecht’s experience in the oil and gas sector sprang up in the 1950s as it started rendering services for the newly created Petrobras. In the 1970s it became the first private Brazilian company ever to operate in drilling for oil in Brazil. In the following decade it spread its operations through international waters (Africa and India) and in the 1990s it began operating semi-submersible deep-water oil drilling platforms at the Campos Basin, off southeastern Brazil shore. In 1998, upon termination of the state oil and gas monopoly in Brazil, Odebrecht started investing in Exploration and Production (E & P) by participating in exploration permits in Brazil and Angola.
